However there are of course weaknesses that Harley must minimize in order to maintain growth of past marketing efforts towards middle-aged men. They have been making every effort in recent years to advertise towards a new market and must continue to do so effortlessly to achieve and maintain their growth. They will also need to be conscious about minimizing their falling sales and the decline in liquidity ratio. If they can get a handle on this weakness they can resolve their fall and can look forward to positive long-term effects on the companyââ¬â¢s growth. One of the areas of opportunities that Harley has started to focus in on is the advantage of the market towards women and young riders which are showing a large interest in riding, this is a market that is sure to keep the company growing for the better. It will be imperative for Harley to continue these marketing efforts to achieve growth in these demographics. Another area of opportunity for the company is their overseas market for Harley motorcycles. The company is planning to establish between 100 and 150 dealerships overseas through the year 2014 with the goal of international sales composing 40% of total sales (2009 Harley-Davidson Report 10-K). According to the report, Harley must look at the threat of the motorcycles which are a luxury commodity and with the recent recession, many customers do not have the income to purchase seasonal vehicles. For their aging market is an imminent threat since the current customer base is made up of middle-aged men. However, since Harley is beginning to make more marketing efforts to target other groups, this could minimize the threat (Lenz, 2010). Harley-Davidson is looking at the opportunity to adopt a strategy of growth in a horizontal approach which would be most beneficial which would allow Harley to expand more into their overseas markets. They could use a licensing method to begin overseas production and sales of motorcycles to penetrate this growing market. Obtaining a license would allow Harley to break into the markets with a minimal investment. Especially if the demand increases with time, Harley could possibly look into the opportunity to build a plant in this market and begin permanent production. This is an awesome opportunity for the company, but building overseas can be risky, especially with patent its brand, so it would be imperative for Harley to make sure to legally protect their copyright, patents and other intellectual rights. The licensing would need to be thoroughly writing and looked over by their attorney. Although the growth strategy may seem appealing to Harley, it would be beneficial for Harley to follow a very strategic stability for expanding their market overseas because to the different laws and government structures in other countries along with the currency rates, all these things will need to be carefully looked at before increasing this market. This opportunity of course will increase overseas but it will not resolve the issues of the declining growth of revenue here abroad they may need to take an approach to slow down a little to evaluate then proceed with caution with a strategy to determine the direction for the companyââ¬â¢s future. It will be imperative for Harley to review its marketing strategies to make sure they are on the right path to being effective and successful. With the company moving forward slow but steady they can do some thorough research to fully understand why they have plummeted in revenue and how they can turn this around. Once they have stabilized their domestic position they can then evaluate their resources for expanding internationally with a solid financial foundation and strategy here in the U. S. (Lenz, 2010).

Scarlet Letter In the book The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, a character by the name of Roger Chillingworth had committed the unpardonable sin and he basically killed another character, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. Everyone has been in a position where they have had the chance of manipulating or blackmailing someone. Chillingworth did exactly that and ended up breaking down Dimmesdale to his death. Dimmesdale was not the single one affected by Chillingworth's deeds. Chillingworth had a spouse, but no one knew of their relationship. Her name was Hester Prynne and she had an illegitimate child named Pearl. The Reverend Dimmesdale had an affair with Hester, and he is the real father of Pearl. Throughout the novel the people of Boston were withheld this information, along with the information of Hester's real husband. Chillingworth was a physician, or back in those days a doctor was called a leech. Dimmesdale started to feel ill, thus starting the beginning of his end. Dimmesdale became not simply a patient of Chillingworth, but a roommate as well. Being in such close contact with Dimmesdale, Chillingworth has come to know the minister's most private emotions, and he has begun to suspect that Dimmesdale's illness is the result of a deep secret that has at no time been confided with another. In a sequestered conversation with Hester, Chillingworth made a vow to descry the real father of Pearl, and expose him. In a conversation with Dimmesdale, Chillingworth brings up the question of why an individual would be willing to carry "secret sins" to his grave sooner than confess them during his lifetime. Dimmesdale and Chillingworth exchange their thoughts. One of Chillingworth's was, "Wouldst thou have me to believe, O wise and pious friend, that a false show can be better-can be more for God's glory, or man's welfare-than God's own truth? Trust me, such men deceive themselves!" To this Dimmesdale feels uneasy and changes the subject. The execution of this act caused Chillingworth to become suspicious. A few days later, Chillingworth found Dimmesdale asleep in a chair. Chillingworth silently approached Dimmesdale. Once Chillingworth had reached his destination, he swiftly removed Dimmesdale's church robe and saw the scarlet letter on the chest before him, hence ending Chillingworth's search for the father of Pearl. Now that Chillingworth knew Hester and Dimmesdale's secret, his metamorphosis was complete. Chillingworth had gone from a caring individual to a devil. Chillingworth acknowledges this, he says in a conversation with Hester, "Dost thou remember me? Was I not, though you might deem me cold, nevertheless a man thoughtful for others, craving little for himself,--kind, true, just, and of constant, if not warm affections?....And what I am now?....I have already told thee what I am! A fiend! Who made me so?!" Chillingworth believes Dimmesdale made him into a "fiend". To Chillingworth, Dimmesdale was weak and had what was coming to him. Hawthorne speaks of Chillingworth's death with no emotion, even though Chillingworth played a large role in the death of Dimmesdale. Chillingworth tortured Dimmesdale to his death. Chillingworth proclaimed"hadst thou sought the whole earth over there was no one place so secret?no high place nor lowly place where thou couldst have escaped me?save on this very scaffold!" Dimmesdale had finally out of captivity. In addition, Dimmesdale asks God to forgive Chillingworth of his sin. Chillingworth could no longer bother Dimmesdale. In the last chapter of the book, Nathaniel Hawthorne tells of how Robert Chillingworth withered up and shriveled away. Hawthorne acquaints that the physician's fate was the most horrible of the three because his sin was the darkest. In the beginning of The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne depicts Chillingworth as a stranger, but also as a compassionate man. Chillingworth made a deal with Hester that he will not tell everyone that he is her husband. Chillingworth does a little investigating on Dimmesdale because of Dimmesdale's unusual acts and behavior. After finding out the truth, Chillingworth begins to torment Dimmesdale up till his last breath. Chillingworth forced Hester to keep her vow of silence in which she would not reveal his relationship with her as her spouse to anyone. In conclusion, Chillingworth performed the inadmissible sin in which he vexes Reverend Dimmesdale to his ultimate doom.

Studies have also shown that maintaining a mindset of interest in the passages aidsa reader's retention of facts and details. Note: this article is a series in the PrepScholar2016 Students' Encyclopedia, a free students' and parents' SAT / ACT guide that provides encyclopedic knowledge. Read all the articles here! While studentsmay be accustomed to debatingvarious points of view within their English classrooms, they will not find room for subjective opinion on the SAT Critical Reading. Instead, each question has only one, unambiguously correct answer, even questions that ask for inference or interpretation. Preparation with SAT materialscan help students applytheir skills of reading comprehension to SATCritical Reading questions that maydiffer from traditional classroom approaches. Critical Reading sections are interspersed throughout the test with Mathematics and Writing sections. There aretwo 25 minute sections and one 20 minute section for a total of 70 minutes. The Critical Reading section asks a total of 67 questions, all of which are multiple choice. If students encounter three25 minute Critical Reading sections on the SAT, then one of them is experimental and will not be scored. On recently administered tests, students have reported encountering unexpectedCritical Reading questions that involved a "base question," followed by several "evidence questions" that referred back to it. For instance, an evidence question might take the form of, "Which of the following provides the best evidence for the previous question?" Since this format is not characteristic of questions onthe Critical Reading section, it is likely that these questions appeared on the experimental, or variable, section in order to test out new material for the redesigned SAT starting in Marchof 2016. Apart from these unconfirmed clues, students have no way of knowing exactly which SAT section is experimental and benefit from treating allsections as important fortheir overall score. There are two main types of questions within Critical Reading: passage-based questions and sentence completions. Passage-based questions test students' reading comprehensionand analysis, while sentence completionsask students to choose one or two vocabulary words that best fit the meaning of a given sentence.Across all Critical Readingsections, there are 19 sentence completions and 48 passage-based questions. Passage-based questions ask about a short passage of 100 to 200 words, a long passage of 400 to 800 words, or paired passages of 250 to 600 words. Paired passages usually address the same topic or theme, and students are asked to compare and contrast the excerpts or the perspectives of the authors. Passages alwaysconsist of prose and may be taken from longer works in the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, literary fiction, or personal narrative. At the beginning of each passage is a blurb stating its source and author, whichmay help deepen students' comprehension by groundingthe passage in its historical context. Many SAT experts agree that passage-based questions fall into five general types. SAT teachers and tutors instruct students to use these soft categorizations in order to understand eachquestion's intent and to focus their attention on the relevant information within the passage(s). These question types may be identified asbig picture, little picture, inference, vocabulary in context, and author's perspective. The first Critical Reading question type asks for the "big picture," or main purpose, of a passage. Big picture questions tend toask fora passage's theme or its overall purpose, including whether it ismeant to inform, review, contradict, persuade, parody, or hypothesize. For instance, this official sample SAT question falls into the big picture category. Sample SAT Question The second question type asks for "little picture," or refers the reader to a specific detail within a passage and cites its location, as lines are numbered by multiples of five. This type of Critical Readingquestion may ask how a line functions within a paragraph, or what a paragraph accomplishes within theentire passage. While it is taken out of context, thisSAT sample question is an example of a little picture passage-based question. Sample SAT Question The third passage-based question type asks for an inference based on a line, paragraph, or passage in its entirety. These questions may differ from the inference skills students apply within their English classrooms, as they are not subjective and will only have one unambiguously correct answer choice. This sample question, while taken out of context, falls into this category of inference Critical Reading questions. Sample SAT Question Fourth, some questions ask about vocabulary in context. Unlike sentence completions, these questions generally refer to easy or medium-range vocabulary words that arebeing used in an unusual way within the context of the passage. Students must use context clues to glean the meaning or function of the word as it is being used. Often, the answer choices will contain higher level vocabulary words than the one under question. Sample SAT Question Finally, the fifth categorization refers to the author's technique, tone, or style. To prepare themselves for these kinds of questions, students are likely to benefit from studyingcommon tone classifications like somber, ambivalent, vindictive, sarcastic, earnest, and pragmatic. Sample SAT Question While Critical Reading questions may not all fall neatly within these domains, as they are based on analysis rather than on official College Board policy, most SAT tutors and teachers agree that the majority can bethus described. Taken together, passage-based questions test students' reading skills, including their ability to make inferences, to understand words and phrases in context, to apply literary terms like tone, theme, and symbol, and to evaluate an author's logic, argument, techniques, and purpose. While these question types may appear in any order, they are arranged chronologically to coincide withthe relevant passage(s). A question about the first paragraph in a passage, for instance, will appear near the beginning of agroup of questions, while a question about the passage's conclusion will be asked near the end of thatgroup. The remaining 19 questions in the Critical Reading section are sentence completions that test vocabulary. Allof these questions are independent from one another. They have one or two blanks and ask students to choose the word(s) that "best fits the meaning of the sentence as a whole." These questions test knowledge of the meaning of high level words. Commonly tested SAT vocabulary words include acrimonious, anachronistic, draconian, ephemeral, laconic, and ostracize. Since the introduction of vaccinations, medical science has managed to all but eliminate many formally fatal and debilitating childhood illnesses in countries where the immunization of children is nearly universal. Diseases such as measles, mumps, diphtheria, rubella and polio have been relegated to a marginal status in developed countries with active immunization campaigns; smallpox is actually considered to have been completely eliminated from the earth, without a single case having been reported since roughly 1979 (ââ¬Å"Childhoodâ⬠). Largely centered around a study published in 1998 in the British medical journal ââ¬Å"The Lancetâ⬠, there has been an upsurge in concerns of the safety of vaccinations and a resulting decrease in their usage, which has lead to a somewhat anachronistic return of these diseases. While some parent's concerns over the safety of vaccinations are based upon the well-intentioned desire to keep children safe from autism, the act of not vaccinat ing children actually causes far greater damage by exposing them to acquiring potentially life-threatening illnesses and removing a critical link in the chain of herd immunity. Over the last 12 years, a growing population of parents have chosen to avoid immunizing their children with the misguided belief that they are protecting their children from the specter of autism. One of the most common concerns in this vein centers around the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella combination) vaccine. Experience of working within a social work organization Essay
Introduction Organization is a social unit of people that is structured and managed to meet a need or to pursue collective goals .All organizations have a management structure that determines relationships between the different activities and the members, and subdivides and assigned roles, responsibility and authority to carry out different task (Sorenson, 1999, p. 76). Initially I will give a brief back ground about organisation of my placement, the Primary task, Authority and issues of diversity and inter-professional working. Interpersonal skills of a mental health professional are essential for an effective multidisciplinary team member, interpersonal skills, characteristics and attitudes are key to team working. Individuals on a team should be encouraged, through reflective practice and appropriate support, to examine their own characteristics and how they might adapt to a team environment. It is also important to recognize that while mental health professionals may have well-developed skills within their own area of expertise, it should not be assumed that they have all of the skills needed to collaborate effectively with others as part of a team. There is the primary task (also referred to as functional task or work task), this corresponds with the mission of an organization. Most organizations face multiple tasks all vying to be expressed in the service of the primary task. This is the point where authority, becomes central, i.e. the person who decides what task has priority. It is the authority boundary in conjunction with the task boundary that helps the task become clear and for the work of the group to be taken on successfully. (Hayden and Molenkamp, 2002, p. 7). Absent clarity at the authority boundary, destructive chaos is likely to result and the survival of the group is in peril. While in some instances such a collapse is desirable for the new to arise and for the task to be met. Yet from the perspective of the group that dies, the loss continues to live well after the time boundary passes. The primary task of my group in the organization, include case management, analysis of social welfare policies, and Care managementââ¬â¢ was considered to be fundamental element of the community care reforms in the 1990 Act. In 2003 one in ten of local authority social workers were employed as care managers but it is difficult to know what this meant in terms of their roles and function. In theory the core tasks included: case finding and referral; assessment and selection; care planning and service packaging; monitoring and re-assessment; and case closure. (Knapp et al, 2005: 40). Functions that team the play for society was our objectives as a team was to create a society in the next two decades in which no child lives in poverty and where all children have opportunities to realize their potential. Improving opportunities for disadvantaged children is at the heart of our strategy. à (HM Treasury 1999, p. 39). As with older people, the consistent message that disabled people have given about the services they receive is that they do not adequately meet their needs. Research by Jenny Morris in the early 1990s found that statutory services were inflexible; were only available for the most basic personal care tasks; tended to `fit the client to the serviceââ¬â¢ rather than the service to the client; were provided in a way that reduced independence; and were only available to people in their own home so they could not be helped to go out, either to social activities or to work. Authority boundaries and facilitating structures, the role of authority boundaries and structures is to provide a space or object for the anxiety and worry work to be displaced among social workers, so that the group can attend to the task realistically and appropriately. The term leader acts out as the organizationââ¬â¢s ambivalence and splitting. Interpreting this situation through Hirschhornââ¬â¢s model suggests problematic consequences. The issue groups volunteers to take up the organizational tasks and attendant risks offered and accepted authority and, using Colinââ¬â¢s facilitating structures, did important work; they thus entered the virtuous cycle. This process, however, reduced the authority and increased the anxiety in the top team; they were likely to be heading for a vicious cycle of anxiety, leading to social defences, and therefore dysfunctional process and inhibiting structure. Thus, there were two competing processes: one facilitating change and the other undermining it. All organizations have socially constructed defences against the anxiety which is aroused through carrying out the primary task of the organization ( Isabel Menzies 1970 p.496) These social defences may be evident in the organization structure, in its procedures, information systems, roles, in its culture, and in the gap between what the organizations says it is doing and what it is actually doing. Social defences are ââ¬Å"createdâ⬠unconsciously by members of the organization through their interactions in carrying out the primary task. The term leader, in his leadership, yet an analysis of the top teamââ¬â¢s dynamics suggests a high degree of basic assumption dependence. Additionally, lack human diversity within any given organization if the workplace is within, to coin (Hirschhornââ¬â¢s, 1988 pp.39) term, then the learning organization must account for the variety of images that obtrude from the personal histories of each member. The work of (Kets de Vries and Miller 1985, pp.239) illustrates clearly the consequences of the neurotic qualities of managers permeating the working relations within an organization. Additionally, an element of diversity is a personââ¬â¢s age and life stage (pp.246) .On a different front writers such as (Gilligan 1982 pp.23) and (Schachtel , 1989 pp.214) à have argued in their own ways that gender influences strongly the way in which men and women engage with their world. The learning disabilities which Senge sees connected to structural manifestations of hierarchy and segmentation may be understood more deeply as evidence of patriarchal, phallocentric modes of engagement. Yet a reading of Senge shows no consideration of neurosis, age or gender, let alone libido, in the dynamics of the learning process. Furthermore, he does not consider how any one of these affects a personââ¬â¢s readiness to learn, which differs substantially between people at different times. He asserts that the learning organization is one which will end the war between home and work when managers realize that effective parenting is the model for leadership. Knowlden (1998) suggested that experience impact on a social worker ability to be caring; as a student social worker I was often overwhelmed by the working environment. This could imply that it is not the amount of experience which is important, but the length of time it takes for a social work to acclimatize. Support mechanisms such as preceptorship and clinical supervision may, therefore, have a role in facilitating compassionate care. (Pearceyââ¬â¢s 2007 p.29) study offers some support for Wrightââ¬â¢s views. As a social work I observed that qualified social workers mainly cared for patientsââ¬â¢ medical needs, with the core element delegated to junior practitioners. Many years ago a ââ¬Ëtask-centredââ¬â¢ approach to organizing care was proposed as a possible defence mechanism against the anxiety that a more interpersonal style of working creates (Menzies, 1970 p.258). This may offer some insight into the behaviour of social workers who seek refuge in form filling and other activities not directly related to care. Social worker students from different health disciplines often have little idea of what each otherââ¬â¢s roles entail. Inter-professional learning increase this knowledge, as well as giving students an understanding of the interpersonal skills needed for liaison and communication. Every professional has its own roles, skills and responsibilities making for efficient practices in curing, managing or treating particular ailments, but has this always created cohesive team working in day-to-day working life. In my social worker practice fitting in the organization hierarchy was a problem, and I was not able to question, share knowledge and learn together without professional and defensive boundaries. Often, an institutional hierarchy may obstruct the flow of communication and prevent a person from contributing and feeling valued, which ultimately can negatively affect patient care (Reynolds, 2005 p.19). More longitudinal studies are needed that follow through and beyond my undergraduate studies, along with critical observation of the learning process. Standardizing in the curricula of all health professionals can improve key skills and prepare students for their careers by driving up standards of professionalism and best practice. Sometimes, in the hierarchy of the hospital, it is hard to know what one place is as a student social worker student. When one is it the bottom of the totem pole. à No one in this hospital is lower than me. I think most of us have probably gotten that vibe at some point, even if it hasnââ¬â¢t been explicitly articulated. à Thereââ¬â¢s the simple fact that, in some ways, we are occasionally more of a burden to the hospital than a benefit. à Itââ¬â¢s a constant between trying to be useful, trying to learn something and really make the most of rotation, and simply not getting in the way. For example ââ¬Å"one of social worker will help you,â⬠the term leader said. à Maybe he was joking? à I couldnââ¬â¢t tell his intonation could have gone either way. Then, the leader handed me a folder. à ââ¬Å"Here, fan her with this,â⬠she said. à Again joking? à Not sure. à à And naturally, being a social worker student, my mind immediately leapt to the assumption that they would think I wasnââ¬â¢t a team player if I didnââ¬â¢t agree to fan her. So really, what else could I do? à When the staff physician walked in, I tried to be nonchalant about the fact that I was standing by the patientââ¬â¢s head and fanning her with a purple confidentiality. Being at the bottom of the hierarchy within a multidisciplinary asking question is also a careful balance. A friend a year ahead of me gave me some pretty phenomenal advice: à If itââ¬â¢s a question related to patient care or unique to a particular situation, or about management of your patientââ¬â¢s condition ask away. à Of course, thereââ¬â¢s a time and a place for everything. From the view of the individual I have sketched, the important questions about groups are those devoted to the conditions that take away the factors in social environment that ordinarily keep his self-system in its normal integration. (Bion, 1961: 145-6) Bion stated that the basic assumptions are states of mind the individuals in the group get into. The awareness of the group remains in its regressed form because the group is there and so restrains further disintegration which would be tantamount to psychotic states, an eventuality that the early structuring of the self also resists desperately. The problems of group dynamics thus become those of how the normal affirmations of the self system are removed. The situations of groups in this respect are of almost infinite variety. Thus when Bion said that certain illnesses might originate as diseases of the group, he thought specific illnesses might prove to be linked to specific states of the group. Here the most prominent stem from the task. Although there may have been some nominal description such as ââ¬Å"to study group processes,â⬠none of the members has any clear notion of what that task involves this affected my group as I was working with. There is therefore immediately a considerable loss for the self of its ego anchorage in reality. Important also is the realization that the task, in whatever form it emerges, will involve members in some exposure of their private and even hidden self. This factor I believe to be important in the group dynamics group, although much more so in the therapeutic one. Since the origin of the secret self was its unacceptability, there is a great deal of anxious suspicion among members is that which he expresses some of his feelings about the situation. In conclusion, from my experience, I have learnt that it is important for both the student and the organization placement staff to be aware of who is going where before the placement starts. A good social worker student will contact the organization team in advance of the placement in order to check what time to turn up, and whether there is any uniform policy or other protocols they should be aware of. Likewise a good ward team and mentor will encourage the student to come on a preliminary visit just to be given the above information and to say hello. It can help enormously to reduce anxiety on a first day if the student already knows one or two faces. On a pre-placement visit the student can be introduced to their mentor and have a quick chat and any placement reading can be handed out together with the placement information pack, outlining learning opportunities and ward information, shift pattern, dress code etc. Off duty rotas can be planned together and a pre-placement visit can also be the forum for any negotiation over study days and child care needs etc., so that the anxiety over these can be managed prior to the placement. Consequently, for the lack of the enforcement of USDA laws products that are supposedly organic are going out to the public and cause harm to the people who consume it for the reason that the way that the produce was grown or either imported with illnesses. On the contrary, many may argue that even though organic food at times possess such threats they do not come close to comparing to the threats possessed by chemically treated foods. Researchers such as Joanna Jurewicz, believe that children being exposed to pesticides at any time during foetal life will have some type of health effect. She addressed that each year ââ¬Å"almost 50,000 children are poisoned annually by exposure to pesticidesâ⬠(Jurewicz 71), while emphasizing that the most common health effects are on foetus and young children. She proposed that all acute exposures to pesticides cause ââ¬Å"skin irritation, lesions in the respiratory tract, and severe toxic neurologic effectsâ⬠, in long exposure she blames their constant motive to put everything in their mouth and their immature detoxification systems with how they are the easy target for pesticides and chemical
